Twenty years ago, Tiffany bravely reached out to Harbor House Domestic Violence Shelter after years of abuse. She and her children were among the first to walk through the doors of the newly built facility, a place made possible by the generosity of donors and community supporters.
Harbor House provided Tiffany and her children with the protection and support they desperately needed. It also opened doors to resources that helped them begin rebuilding their lives.
I finally had space to breathe without living in fear. I could think clearly and plan for our future.”
Since opening in 1992, Harbor House has served nearly 8,300 survivors of domestic violence by providing safe, confidential shelter and trauma-informed services.
Today, that work continues through both shelter and outreach programs because donors invest in safety, hope and healing for our community.
Leaving an abusive situation is complex. It requires careful planning, the right timing and often additional support. Every survivor’s journey is different, and Harbor House staff are trained to walk alongside them. “We are able to meet survivors where they are in their journeys,” said Keri McGregor, Harbor House program director.
Thanks to the support of donors, Tiffany was able to access the resources she needed to rebuild her life. She enrolled in college, completed a master’s degree and purchased her first home, a safe space where she and her children, now adults, still gather today.

“The safety, security and advocacy from Harbor House does not just last during a stay,” Tiffany said. “They are foundational, generational and continue to impact lives.”
Tiffany’s journey from crisis to empowerment is a testament to what is possible when a community comes together to support those in need. Today, she gives back as a Harbor House advocate for other survivors, helping them find safety, hope and a bridge from adversity to a brighter future.
