No one should have to face hunger alone. Our Daily Bread offers caring support through supplemental food assistance.
The cost of groceries, especially fresh produce, protein sources and other essential items, can put significant pressure on low-income households. For individuals and families facing an unforeseen crisis, illness, job loss or accident, it can be challenging to purchase enough food to last until the next paycheck.
What to expect
Monthly Food Assistance
Once a month, people may visit the pantry to select 2-3 days’ worth of food from a variety of fresh and canned fruits and vegetables, pasta and rice, breakfast items, dairy products, canned and frozen meats and other proteins, and breads. The quantity of food is based on household size.
Supermarket Model
The pantry operates as a consumer choice model, meaning that people who go to the pantry can expect a “shopping experience” when they visit. With the help of a volunteer personal shopping assistant, the patrons can choose the items that they and their families will enjoy.
Blessing and Hope
We hope every patron leaves our building with groceries to nourish their bodies and with a sense of renewed hope. Our thoughtful volunteers take joy in helping others find not only the food they need but also in providing heartfelt encouragement.
Commodities (TEFAP) are available on the first and third Tuesdays of each month.
Eligibility
Requirements
The only requirement to receive provisions is the ability to travel to the pantry.
Proof of income is NOT required.
To ensure everything goes smoothly when you come to the pantry, you will need to:
Complete an in-person application during your first visit.
Bring proof of identity for all persons listed on the application/file. Social Security card, birth certificate, medical card, school ID or a City of Wichita ID are examples that will work.
Bring proof of address within the past 60 days.
If you are unable to pick up your food in person, a proxy form must be on file. The individual needing food must fill it out, list who will be picking up the food and ensure both parties sign the form.
Kansas Food Assistance
Our Daily Bread is a distribution site for The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) that provides free USDA food commodities to low-income individuals and families once per month. The commodities provided through this program are predetermined, bagged groceries distributed based on family size.
Available the first and third Tuesday of each month.
Requires an additional application (separate from the Our Daily Bread application).
Patrons enrolled in SNAP, TANF, LIEAP, WIC or CSFP are automatically eligible to receive commodities.
We try to make people feel relaxed. We give them reassurance that this is what the pantry is for: ‘You are in need right now, and this is what we are here for: to help you out in this time of your life.’”
