Give To Catholic Charities

Your gift, big or small, can change a life

Your philanthropic investment is the most reliable source of funding for making a difference in the lives of each person in the programs of Catholic Charities, Inc.

Although our work requires physical and financial resources, the immeasurable gift of generosity is the key to truly changing lives, one person at a time.

When you give, you do more than provide resources. You offer hope, safety and dignity to our broken-hearted neighbors. Every dollar helps someone take a step toward a brighter future. Your generosity will:

Ways to give

Annual and recurring gifts of any amount support people in need.

Your undesignated gift provides the greatest flexibility to address the most urgent needs when they are needed most. As other sources of funding ebb and flow, your contributions help ensure each person’s and each family’s needs are met—consistently, month to month and year to year.

Gifts made by cash, check, credit card or direct debit (ACH or EFT) from your bank account are the most common and easiest ways to change lives through the programs of Catholic Charities.

Become a recurring giver

Recurring gifts provide a stable source of funding when other sources of funding are fluctuating or unavailable for any reason.

Donate stocks or securities*

Charitable gifts of appreciated stock, bonds or mutual funds may provide you with specific tax advantages. As the donor, you can receive a tax deduction for the market value of the gift at the time of your donation, while not having to pay capital gains tax on the appreciated amount.

If you sell depreciated stock and contribute the proceeds, you can receive a tax deduction for the charitable gift and a deduction for the capital loss.

To support efficiency and stewardship goals, Catholic Charities gifts of appreciated stock, bonds or mutual funds are processed through the Catholic Diocese of Wichita. Please designate Catholic Charities on the form.

Give to a Catholic Charities Endowment Fund

Catholic Charities has several endowment giving opportunities for persons to give in. Designate your contribution

While not part of the general fund, designated gifts are always welcome. To donate a gift in support of a specific program, select the designation from the drop-down menu.

IRA, 401(k) or 403(b) contribution

Transfer retirement earnings to reduce your tax liability and meet your required minimum distribution (RMD) needs. If you are at least 70 ½ years old, another commonly used option to make a gift to charity is through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your IRA. A QCD allows you to make direct transfer of up to $108,000 per year from your IRA to the charity of your choice. Because Catholic Charities is tax exempt, there is no tax. You can give from pre-tax assets and the gift is not reported as taxable income. Simply contact your IRA administrator and request a “Qualified Charitable Distribution” from your IRA.*

Leave a lasting legacy with a bequest

We encourage you to consider a legacy gift after the members of the family have been taken care of in your Last Will and Testament.*

* Catholic Charities is not qualified to provide legal tax guidance or financial advice. Please speak with a qualified tax professional to understand the benefits for you when making tax-deductible donations.

FAQs About Giving

Good questions

Do you accept gifts of real estate or land?

Unfortunately, the time and expertise required to transfer ownership and sell real estate and property exceed the capacity of staff. We encourage you to sell the property, take care of the costs and your family needs, and send remaining funds to Catholic Charities.

What types of donations do you accept?

Please see our Gift Acceptance Policy for an overview. If you have another type of gift in mind, please call our development team at (316) 264-8344, ext. 1262 or email Events@CatholicCharitiesWichita.org.

How do you allocate undesignated gifts to programs?

Funds are budgeted for each program based on the cost to meet community needs and program goals for serving people after grants and fees are budgeted. If program funding sources change due to government cuts, shifting foundation priorities or lower than expected sales, the general fund is used to make up for the shortfall. This ensures consistent services can be provided to people in need when they need it most.

The great news is that every year, 85 percent or more of every dollar entrusted to Catholic Charities funds programs and services, not administrative or fundraising costs. This is only possible because of the generosity of donors and Christian stewardship principles.
