Working closely with the greater Wichita community, we’ve been helping people in crisis find stability and empowerment for more than eight decades.
Callie had big dreams.
A singing career, a big family, and a life she could be proud of.
But her plan was derailed when she became a single mom.
Bills and childcare costs piled up, the car broke down, and her paycheck didn’t stretch enough to cover it all. It was a gut-punch when the eviction notice came, even though she knew her payments were behind.
With three little kids, where could she go?
Catholic Charities helps families like Callie’s, regardless of their background, religion, faith or no faith, so they have a safe place to begin rebuilding their lives.

Empowering people in need, stabilizing families
Catholic Charities provides stability and hope to individuals and families in crisis by meeting basic needs, such as food and shelter.
Through genuine care, access to resources, and compassion—especially for people who may feel forgotten—we help restore human dignity.
Programs include:
- A food pantry in southwest Wichita
- Domestic violence outreach and an emergency shelter
- One of Wichita’s only homeless shelters dedicated to helping families with minor children
- Veteran support services
- Adult day services for people living with disabilities and for seniors
Shelters built for safety, hope and healing
St. Anthony Family Shelter, dedicated to unhoused families with minor children, and Harbor House domestic violence shelter were opened in 1988 and 1992.
To meet the growing demand for services, new shelter facilities were constructed in 2005 and 2006 as safe places where healing could begin and hope could be restored for more people in crisis.
Since the current shelters opened, we have:
- Served 19,250 people (40% of whom were children)
- Helped 6,640 families
- Hosted residents for 38 nights on average
- Served 867,000 meals
Our shelters make a tangible difference for families facing hardship, giving them space to overcome trauma, regain a sense of control and move forward with confidence. The programs and services strengthen families and build resilient parents and children.
Over the next 20 years, we fully expect to host 20,000 more guests in these shelters.
