Guidance for each step through disaster recovery

Experiencing a disaster can feel overwhelming. When faced with uncertainty, stress and loss, even simple decisions can seem challenging. When disasters hit, Catholic Charities employees are prepared to guide those affected through recovery services available to support them.

We work with local groups, government emergency teams and FEMA when activated to provide case management that reduces disaster impacts and helps communities recover and respond better. Our services cover 25 counties in South Central and Southeast Kansas.

What to Expect

What is emergency relief case management

Case management provides:

  • One-on-one support to individuals and families
  • Referrals to emergency disaster shelters operated by the American Red Cross
  • Access to long-term temporary housing providers after departing from an emergency shelter
  • Resources for clothing, furniture, and household goods
  • Help with filing FEMA applications for individual assistance (in declared locations)
  • Referrals to state and local government offices for temporary assistance and replacement of driver’s licenses
  • Referrals to emergency and ongoing group meal services, food pantries and other recovery support for up to six months after the disaster

Depending on the nature of the disaster, Catholic Charities also can serve as a bulk food distribution center through the Our Daily Bread Food Pantry in South Wichita.

For people facing personal disaster, such as a house fire or sudden injury, please reach out to your local American Red Cross office by calling 1-800-733-2767 for help.
