Seniors attending Adult Day Services at Catholic Charities are collaborating with Adventure Planet daycare in a unique and mutually-beneficial project.

Every other month, 10-15 clients are transported by bus to the daycare center for one hour. They read to the children, play games, work on crafts and participate in learning centers.

KC Wakefield, a coordinator at Adult Day Services, said the partnership provides learning and growth opportunities for both the seniors and children.

"It's just really a good thing to see, a good project and a win, win," said Wakefield.

Staff serving senior clients originally proposed the concept for the collaboration, the idea of which was inspired by a program-wide initiative requiring all those attending Adult Day Services to participate in the community through service projects.

Staff now report several positive impacts and outcomes.

"It is evident the seniors are more happy, and the reverse is also true." The children look forward to them coming," said program director, Dana Bond. "It's truly a give, give."

Adult Day Services at Catholic Charities provides an affordable, quality day program, helping adults with disabilities and seniors maintain independence in the community. With the goal of helping individuals acquire, maintain and enhance daily living skills to maintain independence and remain involved in their local communities, Adult Day Services' focus is meeting the needs of each person through group and individual activities, socialization, community involvement and educational programs.

Program services include care coordination, transportation, nursing services, meals and a wide array of activities and outings. Families and caregivers are encouraged to tour the facilities and visit with staff. Contact the main location, 5920 W. Central Ave., at (316) 942-2008 or visit their page HERE.
