Adult Day Services at Catholic Charities has expanded its programming for adults with disabilities by utilizing leased space as a second, satellite location.
The new space, located on the west end of the Crossroads Shopping Center just east of Ridge Road on Central, supplements the current operation at 5920 West Central, serving as an intermediary step in long-term plans to address current capacity concerns.
The satellite location is capable of accommodating up to 40 adult clients who have Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (IDD).
Adult Day Services is a licensed, affordable, quality day program for adults with disabilities, dedicated to enhancing quality of life and offering opportunities to maintain independence in the community. It is designed to meet individual needs and promote socialization, dignity and independence in that participants help select and plan activities.
Program Director, Dana Bond said the need for programs like Adult Day Services at Catholic Charities surpasses current services available in the area.
“There are over 900 persons with Intellectual Disabilities on the waiting list for Medicaid funding in Sedgwick County, and current community capacity for services does not adequately meet the need,” said Bond.
