The Community Foundation of Southeast Kansas (CFSEK) has announced that $70,000 will be awarded from the Community Foundation for Match Day 2023 on Nov. 28.

The Catholic Charities Endowed Fund is one of the participating funds which is eligible to receive a prorated amount of the $70,000 based on the amount of dollars donated to it as part of Match Day 2023.

What is the Catholic Charities Endowed Fund

The Catholic Charities Endowed Fund was established with CFSEK in October 2021 with an initial contribution of $25,000 from the agency. The endowed fund gives individuals, businesses and foundations the opportunity to make a long-term investment in the work that Catholic Charities does in Southeast Kansas.

“Catholic Charities has been working in Southeast Kansas since 1989,” says Traci Kennedy, executive director. “For many years our focus has been on homeless prevention and household stabilization for individuals, families, veterans and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.”

“The gifts made directly to Catholic Charities by many generous people in the community provide immediate client assistance dollars and help with operational expenses not covered by grant funding,” Kennedy says.

“Gifts made to the Catholic Charities Endowed Fund at the Community Foundation have a longer reach by creating a consistent revenue stream for future needs,” she says.

With offices in downtown Pittsburg, Catholic Charities serves an 11-county area of Southeast Kansas. Two ministries – Southeast Kansas Services and Supportive Services for Veteran Families – focus on homeless prevention and household stabilization. A third ministry, SAFE Project, is a collaboration with the Kansas Department for Children and Families that helps survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault overcome barriers to employment, safe housing and economic self-sufficiency.
