What is The Mount at Catholic Charities?
The Mount is an Extended-Stay Shelter and Family Enrichment Complex providing residential housing, life skills education and case management services for families and individuals who are on the road to permanent housing and need additional time to stabilize their lives. The residents are designated as "in waiting" by virtue of having completed an achievable housing plan and housing is imminent within a three month period.
The program also includes specialty housing and employment services for its residents.
Who Are We?
Catholic Charities has addressed the needs for safe and stable crisis shelter services for women and children experiencing domestic violence and for homeless families in the community for over 25 years. We know from these many years of experience it takes time for our residents to seek and obtain permanent housing and sufficient employment.
The Mount at Catholic Charities seeks to address gaps in the housing service continuum while keeping clients safe and in acceptable housing.
Why is there a need?
It takes time for the residents of our shelters to seek and obtain housing and employment. Residents of Harbor House and St. Anthony Family Shelter often stabilize their crises quickly - in 30 to 45 days. But they often remain in our shelters for extended periods because they do not have a "bridge" housing option while they
a) wait for permanent housing to become available
b) seek employment, or
c) await the birth of a child.
These extended-stay emergency shelter residents have met their immediate safety and security goals and do not need further case management with the exception of specialized assistance with housing, employment and in meeting their infant's needs. In some instances, they simply require additional time to save for their first month's rent and/or deposit or to wait for a housing voucher, a job, a paycheck or the delivery of their baby.
All participants are assigned a Housing Specialist to support the implementation of their Housing Stability Plan, as well as an Employment Specialist to support employment activities.
What are our Vision, Mission, and our Goals?
Clients will access, secure and maintain stable and affordable housing as well as employment.
