How We Help

Talking, listening, sharing, communicating – these are things most of us do every day. Often we don’t give them much throught, but when languages and cultures are different communication can be riddled with misunderstandings and inaccuracies.

For Rene (who does not speak English) and her doctor, clear communication was critical – Rene’s life hinged on her understanding of her medical condition. Through an interpreter from Catholic Charities, Rene was able to learn about her diagnosis and treatment. She was able to ask questions and voice her concerns and fears. Her doctor was able to explain her situation, answer her questions and calm her with information.

Professionals throughout the community are faced with similar challenges every day. Lawyers, mental health practitioners, educators, social workers, business owners and others often struggle with effective communication because of language barriers.

Catholic Charities Interpreter Services Program is designed to meet this growing need in our community. With trained, qualified interpreters, Catholic Charities can assist businesses and organizations on-site, providing accurate and confidential translations – helping our community bridge the communication gap.

Scheduling Your Interpreter

Catholic Charities Interpreter Services provides medical, mental health, legal, social service, education and general interpretation services Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Appointments require 24 hours advance notice, but emergencies will be accommodated when possible. Interpreters are primarily available to assist with Spanish and Vietnamese.

The cost for interpreter services varies. Please call for more information.
